The Vallter mountain resort has taken a decisive step toward establishing itself as a leader in responsible tourism by receiving the international “Biosphere Committed Destination” designation. This recognition, awarded by the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI), endorses the resort’s commitment to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their integration into the PIRINEU365 management model.
With this milestone, Vallter has not only established itself as a destination for elite sports, but also as a hub of excellence that prioritizes the preservation of the natural environment and the socioeconomic development of the Ripollès region.

Sustainability and the local area: the cornerstones of recognition
The “Biosphere Committed” designation is the result of a cross-cutting strategy that links tourism with respect for the environment. Among the factors that have earned Vallter this designation are:
- The PiriTer365 educational center: Opened this season, this exhibition center promotes awareness of the source of the Ter River and the biodiversity of the Cabeceras del Ter y del Freser Natural Park.
- Responsible resource management: initiatives such as the REVIU Project, which promotes the circular economy by giving plastic waste a second life, or river cleanup events held in collaboration with local organizations.
- Mobility and decarbonization: promoting the use of the FlexiPass to minimize paper use and the gradual implementation of clean energy sources, following the successful model of Ecovall in Vall de Núria.
Earning the Biosphere seal places Vallter on the international map of destinations that guarantee a high-quality, sustainable, and diverse tourism experience 365 days a year.
