NERET PROJECT
Increasing the Natural Capital of Mountain Resorts
Together with the Center for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications (CREAF), we are working to protect and increase this natural capital, defined as the stock of renewable and non-renewable natural resources on Earth (plants, animals, air, water, soil, minerals) that combine to produce a flow of benefits or services for people. Actions are currently being implemented in La Molina and Vall de Nuria with the aim of replicating the model at the other resorts.
The overall objective of the NERET Project is to preserve and increase the natural capital of FGC TURISME’s mountain resorts, ideally by 25%. The specific objectives of the NERET Project are:
ASSESSMENT
Monitor the natural capital of FGC Turisme's mountain stations.
PLANNING
Define the long-term objectives, the timeframe, and the aspects of natural capital that need to be addressed.
MEASUREMENT AND ACTION
Establish indicators and actions to be taken.
GUIDELINES
Determine the baseline for each of the established indicators.
SCHEDULE
Establish a timeline for the monitoring and evaluation of each of the proposed actions.
THE PROJECT IN DETAIL
The key findings from the MEASURE & VALUE and APPLY stages of the first phase of the NERET project (2022–2024) are currently being used to incorporate and prioritize the proposed actions deemed to have the greatest impact and/or be most relevant within the Action Plans of the assessed farms (Vall de Nuria and La Molina). The actions being implemented enhance the ecological and business resilience of the resorts through nature-based solutions and measures for climate change adaptation and mitigation.
The project, initially carried out in Vall de Nuria and La Molina, is being replicated for the rest of FGC’s mountain resorts, incorporating tools that enable the quantification and monetization of the resorts’ natural capital over time.
