Espot will be one of the featured venues of the Freeride World Tour Junior (FWTJ) this March, in a season that represents a step forward in the consolidation of competitive freeriding in the Catalan Pyrenees. Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) has made a firm commitment to this discipline and is organizing two official events on the junior world circuit: in Espot on March 7 and 8 and in Boí Taüll on March 14 and 15.
A competition that will count towards the new Circuit Català de Freeride
This season, the Catalan Winter Sports Federation (FCEH) has launched the 1st Circuit Català de Freeride, an initiative that responds to the growth of this sport and the emerging talent in the region. Within this framework, the Espot event will count towards the Catalan circuit, while the grand final will take place a week later in Boí Taüll
An unbeatable technical setting in Espot
Espot will offer riders a first-class high mountain setting in the La Bassa sector, with a 130-meter drop and varied terrain that combines safety and spectacular views. The setting, located next to the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, is one of the most iconic areas of the resort and guarantees a high-quality visual and sporting experience for both participants and the public.
International participation and emerging talent
Both events already have more than 200 riders registered from nine countries, a clear indicator of the growing appeal of junior freeriding and the strong positioning of Espot and Boí Taüll as leading venues on the international calendar.
With this agreement, FGC and FCEH are consolidating a strategic commitment to structure competitive freeriding in Catalonia, promoting the sporting base and future of a discipline that is gaining prominence season after season among the younger generations.
For the operation of the competitions, FGC has drawn on the experience of Nevesky Management, creators of the well-known JAM Extreme in Andorra, which is responsible for the technical and logistical management of the events at both resorts.
